GarageBand
Apple’s GarageBand is an incredible tool for the music educator, and since it is imaged on most newer Macs as part of the iLife suite, it is often readily available in many school computer labs. It does not work on Windows-based PCs. I use GarageBand as an introduction to composition and as a wonderful way to introdduce and reinforce the concept of musical form.
It may be done in as few as four lessons. These are the basic lesson plans that I use when teaching GarageBand to students at a music camp, or music educators in a workshop-type setting. Please feel free to modify them for your own use.
I have taught GarageBand as an afterschool program, had students create theme music for school productions, television broadcasts, History Day presentations, iMovie soundtracks, and other classroom presentations. How have you utilized it?
